1. Holiday Activities & Crafts!
A great example of the type of holiday activity we do at MCS is a fun Thanksgiving activity where students create a little book describing the things that they are thankful for completely in Spanish, or “Día de los Muertos” masks for Halloween! I never miss an opportunity to create a Spanish lesson centered around a holiday theme!
2. Special Guests & Music!
For extra fun and for a special treat for my students, I will occasionally invite special guests. Señor Neftali is a wonderful musician from Puerto Rico who loves to share his music including classics like, “De Colores,” “Guantanamera,” “En Mi Viejo San Juan,” and so many more! Cultural exploration goes a long way in not only exposing kids to the Spanish language, but also in inspiring them to learn about other cultures.
3. Art Projects & Cooking!
I believe that kids learn best when they can express themselves through hands-on activities like lesson-related art projects. Examples include: make your own weather wheel, “Mi Rutina Diaria” book, “Animales del Bosque Tropical” canvas art, and so much more! Why just talk about culture when you can taste it? We'll make “Chicha Morada," (a sweet Peruvian drink made from purple corn), during our lesson on Spanish-speaking countries of the world, and guacamole following instructions completely in Spanish for our “Cinco de Mayo” celebration!
4. MCS Newsletter & eMail Updates!
Each term you’ll receive a MCS newsletter highlighting what we’ve been learning and including pictures of your kids in action! You’ll also receive regular email updates from me letting you know when we’ve started a new lesson and what the learning targets are.
5. End of Term Online Evaluations & Video Highlights!
At the end of each term you’ll be asked to provide anonymous feedback of my program through an online evaluation. I’ll be looking for ways to continually improve your child’s learning experience at MCS and I always welcome honest, constructive feedback. I’ll also put together a short movie showing highlights from the term.
